About Us

I recently graduated with a PhD in Literature, Media, and Cultural Studies. My dissertation focused on the construction of the working mother in modernist fiction, but I'm also interested in twentieth-century novels, pop culture, and digital humanities. I love teaching close reading, effective writing, and critical thinking, and I'm always excited to find new ways to do so! I think literature courses are about the art of a craft, but they are also about better understanding culture, communities, and identities.  I can sing the alphabet backwards, but it has never once come in handy.

I am a Ph.D. candidate at Florida State University and an English Instructor at the University of South Carolina-Sumter. My work in progress dissertation uses postcolonial theorist, Edouard Glissant's, Poetics of Relation to consider opacity as a tool for ecological thought and world-building. I'm thankful for the opportunity to motivate students to be passionate about and engaged with the world around them. I think literature and media is one of the keys to creating that passion. I'm really great at catching frogs and my kids are very impressed by my abilities to so.

In 2016, we met as PhD students in a reading group for professionalization. We soon became friends and found ourselves discussing course materials, sharing lesson plans, and asking for advice constantly over phone calls and writing dates. Our conversations helped us become better teachers, more confident and more conscious. Finally, we figured we could share what we talk about with others. So we did.
